Mr. Pedro Cruz Villalón has been appointed Advocate General at the European Court of Justice, replacing Dámaso Ruiz-Jarabo Colomer after his sudden death. The meeting of the Permanent Representatives of last 30th November accepted Spain’s proposal, making Mr. Cruz Villalón Spain’s second Advocate General since its incorporation to the Communities in 1986.
A brief profile of Mr. Cruz Villalón can be found here (in Spanish), as well as a nice article published some time ago in El País. Mr. Cruz Villalón is a well-known personality in Spain: former President of the Spanish Constitutional Court, Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Madrid and author of several books and articles on Public and European Law.
After Miguel Maduro’s loss, it’s good news that European constitutional lawyers are back in the collège of Advocate Generals.
We wish him all the best of luck for the coming years ahead.
